The word 'Consultancy' can cover a multitude of meanings. I prefer to think of it as guidance, through the maze of potential traps and pitfalls.

The world of computers is littered with failed applications. Many of them Government or large corporate projects costing millions of pounds which still manage to end up being complete 'white elephants'. Even systems that do eventually work can arrive years late and millions over budget. A prime example being the air traffic control system at Swanwick. This proposed £400 million project, which was due to go live in 1996, eventually saw the light of day in 2002. I'm not sure if the final cost of this was made known. If organisations with these kinds of resources can't get it right what hope is there for the small to medium sized business?

What is needed is a firm hand on the tiller (and the purse) to ensure that the project is managed correctly.

With more than 30 years in the business and having implemented systems for all but the larges companies, I cannot help having acquired an awareness of the hazards and traps that may be waiting around the corner for the unsuspecting.

I am more than happy to pass on that knowledge.
